North Bethesda Center’s First Apartment Building Opens at White Flint Metro
  • $850-Million Development Will Include Office, Retail, Hotel, Entertainment
  • The Most Vibrant Destination Between Downtown Bethesda and Rockville

NORTH BETHESDA, Md. (May 20, 2008) — The Washington, D.C. regional office of LCOR announced today that it is now leasing luxury apartments at Wentworth House, the first building to open at North Bethesda Center at the White Flint Metrorail station in Montgomery County, Md. New residents can move in as early as June 1.

North Bethesda Center is an award-winning office, residential and retail development rising on a 32-acre site approximately halfway between downtown Bethesda and downtown Rockville. A premiere business-class hotel and movie theater also are expected to be part of the project, which is being developed at an estimated cost of $850 million.

Located east of the intersection of Rockville Pike and Old Georgetown Road, Wentworth House is an 18-story, 312-unit luxury apartment building. The ground floor of the building soon will be home to the largest Harris Teeter grocery store in Maryland. Capping the grocery store will be a 17,500 square foot environmentally friendly green roof, which with landscaping and gardens will absorb much of the rainwater that otherwise would run off the building, and help insulate the structure for more efficient heating and cooling. (The green roof on the LCOR-developed building is a first for Harris Teeter.)

"The excitement is building at North Bethesda Center," said LCOR Vice President Michael J. Smith. "Today the first new apartment building is open. Ultimately residents of four apartment buildings will share the neighborhood with office tenants and together enjoy retail, restaurant and entertainment venues within steps of each other and the White Flint Metro station. Finally, North Bethesda has a city center."

Wentworth House features studio, one- and two-bedroom apartments ranging in size from 563 to 1,252 square feet. The building has a rooftop pool deck, penthouse clubroom, private balconies, business center, fitness center and integrated fiber optics for cable and Internet, among other amenities. Apartments feature high ceilings, black appliances, maple cabinets, granite countertops and full-sized washers and dryers.

Main Street Comes to North Bethesda

LCOR is master developer of North Bethesda Center, the largest joint-development project ever approved by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority. The Main-Street style development that links all of the new buildings to the Red Line Metro station will include 930,000 square feet of office space, 202,000 square feet of retail space and 1,275 multifamily housing units. Pedestrian-friendly, North Bethesda Center is expected to generate approximately 5,400 jobs and almost 6,500 additional daily trips at the White Flint Metrorail station.
