| LCOR Completes Construction
of Andover House, a Luxury Multifamily High-Rise On Thomas Circle
in Northwest Washington
BETHESDA, Md. (November 29, 2004) — The Washington,
D.C. regional office of LCOR Incorporated announced today that the
company has completed construction of Andover House, a 12-story, 171-unit
luxury apartment building. The $40-million property at 14th and N
Streets, N.W. on Thomas Circle is the latest addition to 14th Street,
which is experiencing an exciting revival as a live-work-play neighborhood
near downtown Washington.
The Andover House site adjoins the National City
Christian Church, a national landmark designed by John Russell Pope,
architect of the Jefferson Memorial and the West Building of the National
Gallery of Art, both of which are in Washington.
The neighborhood
surrounding Andover House includes a mix of office buildings, retail,
embassies and residences. Two Metrorail stations are only four blocks
away: Dupont Circle on the red line and McPherson Square on the blue
and orange lines. Two blocks south is the K Street business district;
within two blocks north are a Whole Foods Market and CVS drugstore,
as well as the expanding Studio Theatre.
Inspired by Beaux Arts, the
building’s brick and masonry exterior (approved by the District of
Columbia Historic Preservation Review Board) evokes the grandiosity
of European and American buildings a century ago, yet is distinctly
modern. The main entrance on 14th Street leads to an airy two-story
lobby. A business center and a fitness center are on the first floor;
a library is located on the lobby’s mezzanine level. The building’s
11th floor hosts an expansive two-story party room. Upper floors also
feature duplex apartments with private terraces that command views
of the Washington Monument, U.S. Capitol, National Cathedral and Potomac
River.
The Andover House project team included WDG Architecture
of Washington and Bovis Lend Lease as general contractor. LCOR owns
and manages the property; leasing will begin shortly.
