This 32-acre site located adjacent to the White Flint Metro station is planned for approximately 4.5 million square feet of mixed-use development. The first residential building opened in 2008 featuring a 17,500 square foot green roof that reduces or eliminates heat gain (thus reducing energy demands), while improving the building's overall waterproofing and drainage. The landscaped roof, composed of multiple layers of soil and stones, features a combination of perennials, flowering ground cover sedums and prairie grasses. The second development phase currently underway is a 362,000-square-foot office building for the Nuclear Regulatory Commission that broke ground in 2010 with expected delivery in December 2012. This project will be seeking LEED Silver certification when complete.
